SrI2(Eu) Scintillator has very high light yield of >80,000 ph/MeV which is 2.2 times high compared to a NaI(Tl) scintillator. Energy resolution of less than 4% for 662keV 137Cs gamma rays.

SrI2(Eu) Scintillator has very high light yield of >80,000 ph/MeV which is 2.2 times high compared to a NaI(Tl) scintillator. Owing to such high light yield, energy resolution of less than 4% for 662keV 137Cs gamma rays can be available with 1 inch-size of cylinder. Dr. R Hofstadter discovered originally SiI2(Eu) scintillator and took out patent for it in 1968. But this material was forgotten due to poor light yield at that time. After 40 years from his discovery, a research team of LLNL in US rediscovered the superior performances of SrI2(Eu) scintillator with high quality crystals in 2008.
Union Materials Inc. has developed independently innovative crystal preparation technology “Liquinert” process and improved successfully SrI2(Eu) crystals by the process.
