In particle accelerators often the high frequent electromagnetic field generated by special kinds of electron tubes like klystrons or IOT is used to increase the energy of a particle beam

Such tubes and the application presuppose special demands to the high voltage power supply. Amplitude and frequency of the generated HF field are highly correlated to the applied tube high voltage. Therefore there are high demands to the regulation stability of this voltage. To build an accelerator of adequate performance, a high beam energy has to be achieved and this energy ultimately must be provided by the power supply.
