In the next few years, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) one of the world‘s largest research projects, will be built in international cooperation. The subproject “SIS100/SIS18” is responsible for planning and erection of new heavy ion synchrotrons. For this subproject we are looking for a

Accelerator Physicist, PhD Physicist (m/f)

Tasks include:
• Support and substitution of the head of the subproject in all aspects of leadership within the corresponding accelerator projects SIS100/SIS18
• Coordination of initiating measures for the erection of the accelerators facilities and their components
• Support of the head of the subproject at the follow-up of the project progress in all work packages regarding content
• Support at strategic alignments and contract negotiations
• Support of the head of the subproject at project planning and actualization
• Support of the head of the subproject with respect to the compliance and verification of technical standards, especially safety standards, with respect to the accelerator components, the accelerator facility as a whole, during the procurement-, production, installation-, and commissioning phase. Assistance at creation of safety analysis
• If required, inwards and outwards representation of the subproject
• During substitution, personnel management
• Assistance at budget planning and budget administration.

Essential Skills and Abilities:
• PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of physics or engineering or a related field
• Considerable knowledge in accelerator physics and accelerator technologies
• Ideally, experience in the erection of accelerator facilities or experience in manufacturing of accelerator components
• Safe understanding and interpretation of manufacturing documents
• Extensive technical know-how, especially of manufacturing engineering
• Capability for overviewing of large scale technical projects
• Basic expertise in industrial safety and product safety. Ideally basic skills in low voltage directive and pressure equipment directive
• Business fluent German and English
• Balanced character
• Willingness for national and international business trips, inside and outside of Europe.

The position is not limited. Salary is equivalent to that for public employees as specified in the collective agreement for public employees (TVöD Bund).
