Purpose:
US ITER is a DOE Office of Science project hosted by Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. Partner labs are Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory and Savannah River National Laboratory. The US is a partner nation in ITER, an unprecedented international collaboration of scientists and engineers working to design, construct, and assemble a burning plasma experiment that can demonstrate the scientific and technological feasibility of fusion power for the commercial power grid. ITER's other partners are the People's Republic of China, the European Union, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the Russian Federation. Involvement in ITER provides significant benefits for the US for a limited investment (less than 10% of construction costs): The US has access to all ITER technology and scientific data, the right to propose/conduct experiments, and the opportunity for US universities, laboratories and industries to design and construct parts.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:
* Lead the design, development and procurement of US ITER Electron Cyclotron Heating Instrumentation & Control
* Serve as US ITER Electron Cyclotron Heating (ECH) I&C lead engineer
* Review, analyze and decompose functional subsystem I&C requirements
* Develop subsystem I&C solutions compliant with subsystem requirements
* Guide design staff in the detailed I&C ECH system design
* Lead and contribute to design reviews
* Research novel solutions to unique I&C problems encountered on the ITER project

Authority and Approval Levels:
Provides work direction to group members within guidelines established by the I&C WBS Team Lead. Approves engineering drawings and other deliverables. Acts as Technical Responsible Officer (TPO) for specific procurement contracts.

Qualifications Required

Basic Qualifications:
* BS in Electrical, Nuclear, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
* 10 or more years of I&C engineering and design experience
* At least one year as an I&C lead role
* Thorough knowledge of I&C engineering and design practices including drawings, specifications, and codes, and ability to transition knowledge to European standards and practices
* Experienced in development of, P&IDs, instrument lists, I/O lists, electrical load lists, wiring diagrams, equipment layout, and writing control system functional descriptions
* Excellent writing, communication and organizational skills
* Ability to effectively interact with US team members and ITER personal to successfully bring issues to closure in a timely manner is essential
* Willingness and ability to travel to ITER site in southern France and other domestic or international locations as required

Preferred Qualifications:
* Familiar with AutoCAD
* Familiar with SEE System Design (P&IDs) and SEE Electrical Expert (Electrical Wiring) or other database-driven I&C CAD systems
* Knowledge of RF Transmission Line cooling water and gas flow engineering calculations
* Previous experience in an ITER I&C engineering role

Work Directions and Interfaces:
US ECH and I&C team members, ITER ECH system Responsible Officer (RO), ECH team members, and ITER Control System Division members. US ITER procurement, and serve as I&C technical point-of-contract for related US ITER ECH I&C related procurements.

Measures of Effectiveness:
* Successfully manages design, development and procurement activities of the engineering components for US ITER ECH I&C system.
* Successfully coordinate and execute design reviews.
* Reports design, fabrication and procurement activities to the I&C WBS Team Lead and US ITER management.
* Successfully ensures that the fabrication activities follow the US ITER QA plan and fabrication procedures.
* Successfully monitors and tracks vendor manufacturing plans and reports issues in a timely manner.
* Successfully creates an environment in which individuals within the group can meet US ITER/ORNL environmental, safety, health and quality requirements; and successful enforcement of these requirements
