For an ongoing SNF-funded project of the Quanten Technologies Group - which is part of the Micro and Nanotechnologie Laboratory (LMN) - where we follow a most advanced avenue to realize an integrated laser sources for the Si photonic platform we are looking for a

Postdoctoral Fellow Direct band gap Group IV laser spectroscopy

Your tasks

The scientific agenda of the Quanten Technologies Group derives from the synthesis of our knowledge from “old” materials such as silicon and germanium with new concepts, including technologies related to the quantum states in these materials. Here we are interested to study the radiative recombination efficiency of direct bandgap Group IV semiconductor systems such as alloyed GeSn and strained Ge.

Within the current project, you will be responsible for the time resolved spectroscopy of the optical properties of such direct bandgap Group IV semiconductor systems which you perform at the Swiss Light Source (SLS).

As such you will closely collaborate with our research partners from the ETH Zürich, CEA LETI in Grenoble, Forschungszentrum Jülich and Stanford University.

Your profile

You hold a PhD in physics or electrical engineering, preferably with a background in solid-state semiconductor physics and opto-electronics. Practical skills in nanotechnology, and knowledge of laser device modelling and spectroscopy is highly welcome. You feel challenged by our ambitious project that may open the door for new concepts in data storage and unprecedented microprocessor performances. Also, a strong ability to team-up with others is required.
