Come to work at ELI Nuclear Physics

Come to work at ELI Nuclear Physics

To be built in Bucharest-Magurele, ELI-NP will be one of the three pillars of ELI – the Extreme Light Infrastructure, along with facilities dedicated to the study of secondary sources (Dolni Brezany, near Prague) and attosecond pulses (Szeged).

Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik
Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics

The Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics is one of the 84 research institutes of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science e.V. (MPG). The MPG is an independent, non-profit research organisation which seeks to promote basic research in the service of the general public.

The Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg is looking for a

Leading Scientist in Theoretical Astrophysics or Astroparticle Physics

The Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics performs experimental and theoretical basic research in the fields of Astroparticle Physics (the crossroads of particle physics and astrophysics) and Quantum Dynamics(many-body dynamics of atoms and molecules). Experimental activities in astroparticle physics at our institute include a strong engagement in high-energy gamma ray astronomy with the H.E.S.S. and HAWC instruments and the future CTA Observatory, as well as in dark-matter detection experiments (XENON) and in non-accelerator neutrino experiments. The new Cryogenic Storage Ring CSR allows investigation of atomic and molecular processes under space conditions.

Applicants are expected to establish an internationally visible research group, complementing existing expertise in theoretical physics at MPIK, and interacting with and strengthening our experimental efforts.

Contract arrangements will be negotiated within the context of German public service salary scales, depending on experience.

The Max Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer and wishes to increase the participation of women in its research activities. Therefore female scientists are particularly encouraged to apply. The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more individuals with disabilities and especially encourages them to apply.

Further information can be obtained from Werner Hofmann (werner.hofmann@mpi-hd.mpg.de), Managing Director MPIK.

Applications, including a statement on research interests, CV, publication lists and contact information of
reference persons should be sent to: geschaeftsfuehrung@mpi-hd.mpg.de (reference 20-2017).
